Power of Positive Self-Talk What athletes think or say is critical to their performance. Thoughts directly affect feelings and, ultimately, actions. Inappropriate or misguided thinking usually leads to negative feelings and poor performance, just as appropriate or positive thinking leads to good performances.

Picture the following scene: Ricky, a running back for his high school football team, takes the handoff from his quarterback and runs off-tackle as the play is designed. As he turns the corner, a large, menacing linebacker suddenly appears, possessing an evil intent to pummel Ricky to the ground into submission and rip the football from his clutching hands.

KENYANNA WILSON wasn’t even a blip on the national track & field radar last year. She even had a sub-par school season at Peoria High School. But last July, just weeks after that sophomore season ended, she literally exploded on the national scene.

This time around, we’ll discuss how the training facility you choose will play a big role in you getting the most out of speed and performance training and why consistency is so important. On a regular basis, we’re asked by parents and athletes what they could do to be faster and more athletic. Our response to them is very simple: The key to becoming a faster athlete is to consistently train in an athletic fashion under conditions which allow for optimum training results. Improvements in speed and athletic ability are analogous to any other sport skill. If you want to be better at a specific sports skill, you must practice that skill repeatedly.

The 60th Year of the Arizona Coaches Association is shaping up nicely. We created a vision and input session on the goals of the ACA. The results given by the coaches were great and we are working on many components of the plan. Please continue to contact me with your thoughts, ideas and concerns as we make the ACA even better. We are looking to honor the top 60 coaches in Arizona History at the Summer All Star games. Post your input at the website under current events. And plans are underway to relocate the Hall of Fame so that the public can learn about our great coaches. We also want to videotape coaches and save them for the website download as well, in order to preserve our past.
